In this technique, the Doctor of Chiropractic holds a hand contact, applying forces over the lumbar spine and presses down on the leg support, which moves in such a way that creates traction effects in the lumbar spine. This procedure opens the joint spaces in the low back and reduces pressure within the intervertebral discs. It has been found to be very effective in treatment of low back pain. At Legacy Medical Centers we use flexion distraction to treat sciatica, lumbar spinal stenosis, and lumbar or sacral radiculopathy.
